Whenever I visit Portugal, I always make it a point to stop at a winery. This time, my choice was ADEGA MÃE, nestled in the charming town of Torres Vedras, in Western Portugal. The scenic drive from Lisbon takes just about an hour, making it a perfect day trip.

ADEGA MÃE was created by the RIBERALVES group, renowned for their expertise in the codfish industry. It’s a fascinating mix of tradition and innovation—a place where Portuguese heritage meets modern winemaking.

We arrived around 11 a.m. and made our way straight to the charming shop at the entrance. There, we discovered a tempting selection of the winery’s own wines, rich extra virgin olive oil, frozen cod, and a variety of other local delicacies that truly capture the flavors of the region.

Lunch was scheduled for 1 p.m., so we had plenty of time to enjoy the outdoor area and learn a little more about the winery’s wine production.

The experience was incredible from the moment we arrived, with every staff member being warm, friendly, and welcoming.

The paired lunch at Sal na Adega was an absolute delight. Every wine we tried was exceptional, and my personal favorite was the sparkling brut Blanc de Blancs. The starter selection was a true treat, with three types of freshly baked bread, golden codfish pastries, perfectly seasoned olives, and rich olive oil. The bacalhau à Brás was nothing short of divine. I can honestly say it was the best I have ever tasted.

For those whose mouths are watering from the photos, I also made a video showing the final touches of the dish ‘our bacalhau à Brás’ right at the table. I won’t give any more details here because you will see everything in the video. I hope that soon you will have the chance to visit this incredible place for yourself. As part of our Portugal itineraries that include Lisbon, we can arrange a visit to Adega Mãe and book a paired lunch at Sal na Adega, making sure you enjoy this unforgettable experience effortlessly and in full comfort.

Before dessert, I have to share what Simone finally decided on after carefully scanning the menu for a good ten minutes. She went for Cod Loins with a Crispy Ham Crust. We always order two different dishes so we can taste a bit of each other’s, a little twin thing, of course.

Both dishes were absolutely divine, but without a doubt, our bacalhau à Brás took the crown.

Then came my favorite part of the meal: dessert! Following the chef’s suggestion, we tried one of the house favorites, pear in red wine with filo pastry and mascarpone cream, and it was simply heavenly. And can you guess the other dessert we picked? That’s right, crème brûlée with lime zest. For anyone who loves chocolate and creamy treats, this one was the ultimate winner.

If you are in Lisbon, I highly recommend making a stop at ADEGA MÃE. Our day there was absolutely unforgettable: we shared it with friends, enjoyed incredible food, savored excellent wines, received outstanding service, and filled the hours with laughter and great conversations. I will definitely be coming back!
