On a vibrant morning in Barcelona, I ventured to the famous Mercado de la Boqueria, a true temple of Catalan gastronomy. My destination was clear: Quim de la Boqueria, one of the busiest counters in the market and a local favorite for anyone seeking authentic, well-prepared food.
I arrived around 11 a.m., and as expected, there was a short line. Fortunately, the wait was brief, about 10 minutes, just enough time to take in the market’s lively and colorful atmosphere.
Once we got a spot at the counter, we started in the best way: with a chilled glass of cava. To accompany it, we ordered the house classic: huevos rotos with mushrooms (fried eggs with mushrooms) and the traditional handmade croquetas, golden, creamy, and full of flavor. Everything was perfectly executed, a simple combination that warms the heart.
The highlight of the visit, however, was Quim himself, the owner. Such a friendly and welcoming person! I introduced myself, and we ended up exchanging a few words. To my surprise, he offered us another glass of cava, and we toasted together right there in the middle of the market, a spontaneous gesture of hospitality that made the experience even more special.
If you’re at La Boqueria, I highly recommend stopping by. It’s more than a meal; it’s a gastronomic experience with soul, history, and incredible flavor. I loved every moment!
The final bill? €45.75 for two people, an excellent price for the quality and ambiance.
