Today I want to share with you an amazing place I visited right after my whisky tour at Glenfiddich.
As soon as we finished the tour, around 12:30 PM, hunger was already setting in. I asked our guide where he would recommend grabbing lunch nearby. He didn’t hesitate: “Just a five-minute drive from here. Leave the parking lot, turn left, then right at the first junction, and keep going until you see the Sidings Café sign. Go there, you won’t regret it!” And off we went!
Sidings Café is a truly unique spot, made up of two old train carriages converted into a café. As soon as you step inside, it feels like you’ve traveled back in time! The café is located at Dufftown Train Station and is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 AM to 4 PM. When we arrived, the lady at the door asked if we had a reservation. Since our day wasn’t very planned, of course we didn’t, so we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. (Tip: call in the morning and book ahead!) The indoor area is quite small, but since the menu focuses on light and quick dishes, people usually don’t linger too long.
Orders are placed at the counter, and then the staff brings them to your table. The special of the day was pumpkin and lentil soup, and ham and pineapple quiche. D-I-V-I-N-E! The touch of pineapple in the quiche was simply sensational, giving it a unique and incredibly special flavor.
My sister ordered a baked potato served with coleslaw, tomato, cucumber, and fresh greens. Of course, I couldn’t resist trying it, and it was absolutely delicious!
A perfect spot for a light lunch! The food and service are excellent, and the experience of dining inside a train carriage is truly a unique treat.
If you’re in the area doing a distillery tour, make sure to note this must-visit spot!
