Summer in Mallorca and I was really excited to enjoy a delicious seafood paella with a glass of white wine. To make sure the experience would be unforgettable, I called a friend who lives on the island for updated tips, after all, many restaurants had changed chefs or even closed after the pandemic. He recommended Restaurante Sa Ronda, located in the traditional Santa Catalina neighborhood.
A quick side note: the Mercat de Santa Catalina is a true paradise for seafood lovers, with an incredible variety of fresh fish. If you go shopping near lunchtime, don’t miss the chance to try some tapas at one of the many bars inside the market. I promise I’ll come back to share more about this charming neighborhood, just by the sea and historically home to fishermen and sailors.
Back at Sa Ronda, I stopped by during the week to make a weekend reservation for noon. Without a booking, it’s almost impossible to get a table on weekends! What’s great about this place is that you’ll see lots of locals, which makes the experience feel really authentic. Eating where the locals go is always a great way to experience the culture of a place.
My sister and I arrived (yes, we were the first ones there, lol!) and, of course, started with a glass of house white wine, accompanied by patatas bravas. And the main course? Naturally, a delicious seafood paella! Keep in mind it takes about 40 to 45 minutes to cook, but trust me, it’s worth the wait.
For those who haven’t tried patatas bravas, they are a classic Spanish tapa. Cubed potatoes fried until crispy and served hot with a spicy sauce that makes your mouth water. Absolutely delicious!
I always go for the house white wine, it’s a safe choice that pairs perfectly with the paella and adds a little extra to the meal.
The paella was so good I almost wanted to reach under the table and lick my fingers! Hummmm, the shrimp was fresh and packed with flavor, a real explosion of tastes!
The prices at the restaurant were surprisingly fair. For two people, we spent a total of €53, which I think was a great deal considering the quality of the food and the whole experience.
I honestly can’t wait to go back! Amazing food, lively atmosphere, and impeccable service. I’ve tried quite a few restaurants that serve paella, but this one is definitely at the very top of my list.
