Today I want to share with you my big find: I spent WONDERFUL days in Évora, a charming historic city in the heart of Alentejo, and discovered the delicious Pastelaria Conventual Pão de Rala, which made my experience even more special.
Évora is without a doubt one of Portugal’s greatest treasures. This small Alentejo city is impeccably preserved and draws visitors with its gastronomy and many attractions. No matter where you look, there’s always something interesting to discover. Considered an open-air museum, its historic center is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
I stayed in the heart of Évora at the Évora Olive Hotel, a 4-star hotel with a spa, bar, restaurant, and a lovely pool perfect for the summer. The service was flawless, top-notch! I highly recommend it.
Now, let’s get to it! I want to tell you about the pastry shop I found during my morning walk, with its irresistible conventual sweets, just thinking about them makes my mouth water.
The hotel breakfast was great (I decided to enjoy it on the first day since I was tired from traveling and wanted to sleep a little longer), but I love going out to explore and discover local cafés and pastry shops. So the next day, off I went! Less than two blocks from the hotel, I came across Pastelaria Conventual Pão de Rala. What an amazing find!
The conventual sweets are divine, fresh, and of exceptional quality. Here, indulging in sweets is totally forgiven (haha).
The owner, Ercília, and her son are an absolute delight! So friendly, they patiently explained all the little sweets, and the service was super fast. I can’t stand waiting to eat dessert, I’m such a little sweet tooth!
During the week I spent in Évora, I went back at least three times to get the “beijinho da freira”, my absolute favorite sweet! I also took the chance to chat with the owners, who were incredibly welcoming. They even gave me a little drawing on a napkin with the best places to visit in the region, where to try wines, and where to buy the finest olive oil!
I visited at the end of June, and the weather was perfect: cool in the morning and warm during the day. The ideal combination for exploring the city!
If you have a trip planned to Portugal, don’t miss adding Alentejo to your itinerary. And please, make a stop at Pastelaria Conventual Pão de Rala to try their sweets, it’s a true delight!
