If you’re planning a trip to Málaga, here’s the city’s best tip: go to El Pimpi, and don’t just go once, go as many times as you can! I’ve been there several times, and I can say with confidence: it’s impossible to get tired of it. El Pimpi is not just a restaurant, it’s a complete Malagueño experience.

Founded in the 1970s and located in the heart of Málaga, right next to the Roman Theatre and the Alcazaba, El Pimpi is much more than a place to eat. It’s a living piece of Andalusian history and culture. The atmosphere is welcoming, with typical décor, barrels signed by artists and celebrities, and an energy that blends tradition with joy.

Even after so many visits, stepping into El Pimpi still feels special. Each hall, each patio, every detail on the walls tells a story. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve stepped straight into a Spanish film.

Of course, the charm of the place helps, but it’s the food that keeps you coming back. One of my favorite dishes is the tomato with olive oil and salt, simple and incredibly flavorful. Fresh, meaty tomatoes, carefully sliced, drizzled with quality olive oil and a touch of salt. It may seem simple, but it is pure Mediterranean poetry.

And what to accompany it? A well-chilled beer with a portion of Spanish olives. This combination, especially at an outdoor table with the Málaga sun gently shining, is one of life’s small great joys.

But it doesn’t stop there. The fish dishes also deserve special mention, always fresh and prepared with the authentic flavors of the Andalusian coast. And if you want to try something truly typical, don’t miss the salmorejo. Creamy, perfectly seasoned, served with jamón and a boiled egg on top, it is a true explosion of Spanish flavor.

If you can, avoid peak hours to get a good table without waiting. The late afternoon is magical, with golden light, street musicians playing in the background, and the city settling into that lazy end-of-day rhythm.

And don’t forget to explore the interior of the restaurant. Every corner is worth seeing. And yes, take plenty of photos, the place is extremely photogenic!

Extra tip: if you already know the day and time you plan to visit, it is well worth making a reservation in advance. El Pimpi is always busy, especially during high season, and securing your spot will save you any stress.

El Pimpi is the kind of place that stays in your memory and in your heart. Whether it’s for a long lunch, a glass of Andalusian wine at sunset, or just to snack and take in the city’s vibe, it deserves a spot on your itinerary.

Málaga has so much to offer, but for me, El Pimpi is one of its greatest gems.
