A New Cycle — What Travel Taught Me About Myself

Today is my birthday. And looking back, I see more than just places on a map. I see versions of myself I’ve left along the way, some with nostalgia, others with relief, all with gratitude.

The one who was afraid to start.

The one who said “yes” without being sure.

The one who got lost and somehow found herself too.

Travel has never been just about the destinations for me. It’s always been about feeling, learning, growing. About realizing that we change with every new view, that every city holds a version of us that didn’t exist before we arrived. And sometimes, the most unfamiliar place I’ve ever discovered has been myself.

What I’m Taking Into This New Year

The same curiosity as always.

A little more courage.

A heart more open to what I don’t even know is coming yet.

And while my heart carries these lessons, some places have shaped me in ways I could never have predicted. Here are three destinations that transformed me and reminded me that travel is as much about the journey within as it is about the one across the world.

3 Destinations That Truly Transformed Me

1 · Marbella, Spain

For anyone who needs to learn how to stop. The Mediterranean rhythm, the warmth that wraps without suffocating, the sunset that lingers longer than it should. Marbella doesn’t ask you to rush; it gives you back to yourself. I remember sitting by the sea, feeling every worry dissolve into the waves. Perfect for solo travel with intention and presence.

2 · Lisbon, Portugal

For anyone who wants to feel nostalgic for a place they’ve never been. Lisbon has this strange power of feeling familiar from the very first day. The narrow streets, the fado, the golden late afternoon light over the Tagus. It embraces you quietly, especially if you’re traveling alone. I left a piece of my heart in Alfama that day.

3 · Mallorca, Spain

For anyone who needs beauty that feels almost unreal. Crystal-clear water in shades of blue I didn’t know existed, hidden coves, olive trees older than any plan I could make. Mallorca slows your heartbeat in the best way. Sitting on a cliff, watching the sunset, I realized that awe can teach you as much as any lesson in life.

Travel has never been just about the places. It’s about who you are when you finally stop moving, when the sun is setting, the water is still, and for a moment, everything makes sense.

This new year, I’m not making a list of places to visit. I’m making a promise to keep showing up to the world and to myself.

Here’s to new destinations, both out there and within. 🤍

With love, sand between my toes, and a heart ready for the next chapter.
